Something Smells in SD 34

Jim Righeimer and some of his closest friends were the loudest and most aggressive supporters of Van Tran's announcement for the State Senate.

Could it be that the real motive of certain conservatives promising Van financial support in his race against Daucher was to create an open seat so that Jim Righeimer could have a seat to run for?

And could it be that some of those same friends of Righeimer are trying to cut a deal with Dick Ackerman and some of the key GOP donors --- a deal that will leave Van hanging out there without the expected support, in exchange for donors NOT helping Righeimer's opponent, Janet Nyguen?

Don't be shocked if the much talked about campaign to take down Lyn Daucher never materializes, as Van Tran is sacrificed after giving up his seat for the conservative cause.

Van decided on his own to run. No one pressured him. A lot of Van insiders urged him to run for the 35th and not the 34th.

Since Van can make or break Janet's campaign, Janet should have gotten Van's blessing before running instead of the other way around.

Her lack of patience will end up destroying her blossoming political career.

There is no conspiracy here. Righeimer's close associates did not even know he was thinking about running in the 68th (most did not even know he lived in the district) until Van officially decided to run for the 34th.

Janet doesn't even have the Vietnamese community all wrapped up. She is in big trouble.

It's Righeimer who's in trouble. His baggage - still there - from the last campaign is huge. While his supporters like to blame the Open Primary in 2000 for his defeat - it was his history of financial and ethical lapses.

Now Janet Nguyen is proving to be a much more formidable candidate than expected and there's a whiff of increasing nervousness in the Righeimer camp.

It's a mistake to underestimate Tran or Nguyen. Cynical efforts to manipulate either one will ultimately fail.

Righeimer and others are playing with fire by underestimating the power and strong will of the Vietnamese community. The Republican Party should be promoting exactly these kinds of candidates if we are going to have any future in OC or California.

Righeimer lost before. He'll lose again. Nguyen is a much better candidate with a much strongere base than Tom Harmon had in AD 67.

Another Vietnamese Rep will file to run for the 68th.

How can Janet win if she can't even get the Vietnamese community fully behind her.

Van staying neutral and another Vietnamese running just ended Janet's campaign.

the vietnamese base will remain with janet. she came in first in gg while the other vietnamese candidate came in 4th. that says a lot.

gg has the 2nd highest voter registration in that district. what base does jim have to claim? NONE

Maybe he can claim his 2000 election failure in the 67th district as his base?

Don't run foreclosure Jim

The other Vietnamese candidate is a plant by the Righeimer campaign. He's a wack job with no credibility or support in the Vietnamese community.

On Election Day, the Vietnamese vote will be solidly behind Janet. Just look at how well she did in Garden Grove - coming in first - with another Vietnamese candidate planted in that race to drain votes from her.

I don't know many white people whose family escaped from Vietname on 10 foot boats crowded with dozens of people and whose parents were imprisoned for repeatedly trying to escape Communist oppression.

Not to mention that Righeimer is a right-wing nut job. Chairman of the Family Action PAC? Oh please...he's part of the "Lou Sheldon-agenda" crowd. We don't need more additions to the "moral superiority" caucus in the Assembly. Not that Janet is a moderate by any means, but she is a step in the right direction.
