Righeimer In for the 68th

You heard it here first a week ago when Pete reported that Jim Righeimer was thinking about running in the 68th to replace Van.

Now that Van has announced, it has been reported on FlashReport and on OC Blog that Jim is the de-facto front runner in the race to replace Van Tran.

As Flash reported, Jim Righeimer is a heavy hitter. He's a founding board member of the Family Action PAC, he has millions of dollars, he was part of the Education Alliance helping elect conservative school board members, he'll have the support of county GOP chair Scott Baugh. Should I list more?

Janet Nguyen is a future star in GOP circles, but she should slow down a little and reconsider her campaign. This seat will be open again in six years and in that time she can gain more political experience and build her rolodex to make her a stronger conteneder for this seat. Staying the term now will burn bridges that could be beneficial to her in the future.

Righeimer pull out. He is old news.

Janet is the best fit for the seat. She has the $$$, endorsements and campaign experience.

Righeimer's only claim to fame is losing to Tom Harman.

Janet has $$$? That is funny.

Janet has campaign experience? That is funnier.

Jim has probably been running campaigns long before Janet ever interned in Maddox's office. Heck, he was Rohrabacher's first campaign chairman.

New blood has no idea what is going on in Orange County politics because Jim Righeimer is most famous for authoring the first paycheck protection initiative.

new blood says "Janet is the best fit for the seat. She has the $$$, endorsements and campaign experience."

Does that mean she will be in thrall to the public employee unions, just like her former boss?

Old news NickM. Janet has a great business record, is a Chamber VP, and worked actively against a PLA.

And...is 100% Pro-Life and Pro-2nd Amendment.

Pro-2nd Amendment? Is she even old enough to own a gun?

since when has aged become an issue...

tom mclintock elected to the assembly at 26

curt pringle elected to the assembly at 29

so if age is a problem, then we should have made sure they didn't run

Age probably should've been an issue for Pringle. At least there should've been some issue that prevented him from running.

I think this woman needs to support Hilary for President. So far, the only Republicans interested are men.

Power to the woman.

Why should I be pleased that Janet is a Long Beach Chamber of Commerce VP?

This is the same Chamber of Commerce that endorsed Bob Foster in the 2006 Long Beach mayor's race.

Here's what the Long Beach Press-Telegram had to say about that race (10/28/05):
"Though the office is nonpartisan, everybody knows Foster is a Democrat, and both of his opponents, Councilman Frank Colonna and former Councilman Doug Drummond, are pro-business Republicans."

With friends like these, we don't need enemies.

So now another white male who lost in another district should be the favored candidate for Assembly instead of an articulate Vietnamese woman? How stupid and short-sighted can Republicans get?

The Vietnamese community has been strongly Republican so now we are going to oppose both Van Tran and Janet Nguyen so that we blow the opportunity to create national GOP Asian-American stars?

Jones over Marin. Strickland over Maldonado. Poizner over Mendoza. Daucher over Van Tran. If you aren't a white male is there any point in running for office as a Republican?

Another losing retread? Wow. What an exciting addition to the Assembly GOP Caucus. Righeimer fits right into the Republican Party of Steve Poizner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tony Strickland - all phonies, self-serving and opportunists.

how dumb - who's this "we"? Personally, I'm supporting Tran, voted Kaloogian over Jones and Marin, and may vote for Mendoza (and definitely won't be voting for Poizner). I'm having a hard time thinking of names who meet your criteria. BTW, last I checked Daucher doesn't look like a white male either.

Let me put it in simple words for you.

Jim's no loser. He won the Republican vote in 2000, in a district that includes a lot of what is now the 68th. He was cheated out of the win because they let Democrats pick the Republican candidate. That can't happen anymore.

Don't assume that everyone supporting Righeimer is supporting Daucher.

Dana Rohrabacher was the first endorse Tran and he was the first to endorse Righeimer.

Janet needs to stop comparing herself to Van Tran. Just because she is Vietnmaese and elected doesn't mean she is the same caliber. If that was the case we'd all be watching Assemblyman Tony Lam running for the Senate.

Like Tony Lam and Andy Quach, Janet will fade into mediocrity.

I'm tired of under qualified minorities thinking that the Party owes them just because they are a minority then playing the race card when they aren't good enough.

This isn't happenign with Van (Dick Ackerman the only exception) and it isn't happening with Janet. It is time for her to face the hard reality that most of Van's supporters have chosen Righeimer over her because he is the best candidate. Maybe things will be different 6 years from now.

Righeimer lost last time because he was a bad candidate with a lot of baggage. That baggage is still there. He will embarrass himself and the party.

Nguyen is a qualified local elected official who will help expand the Republican Party. It's time to stop losing with losers like Righeimer.
